Lewis Mitchell - Yorkshire based Producer Director in Documentary Film & TV.

Bradford // Leeds, UK.

Lewis co-founded the independent production company Tell Studio in 2020. The studio produces bold documentaries that shift society, highlight issues, and challenging norms – working with brands such as: Youth Music, NHS, Ralph Lauren, BBC Sounds, BBC THREE, War Child.

They’ve just released their first independent impact documentary CUT SHORT: FIGHTING AGAINST KNIVES IN THE NORTH. The film was featured on BBC Look North and ITV Calendar. It is being distributed alongside an accompanying teaching package as a resource for facilitators/teachers to engage young people on knife crime and youth violence. So far organisations with a reach of over 90,000 young people have signed up. It has also screened at Filmmakers For Change Festival and Big Up Festival.

They also run The New Monday, a monthly networking and community event for West Yorkshire’s screen/creative community. The event is run in partnership with several key organisations: Channel 4, Wise Owl Films, We are the Allies, Leeds City Council, West Yorkshire Combined Authority, and The Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

Independently, Lewis has participated on Screen Yorkshire’s Flex Development Programme and the BFI & Film Hub North’s Creative Producer Lab.

He co-produced the BFI funded short, THE WITCH’S DAUGHTER – starring Burn Gorman (Game of Thrones, Pinocchio, The Dark Knight Rises) and Jo Hartley (This Is England, Dead Man’s Shoes, Eddie the Eagle). The film has screened at Bolton Film Festival and has been nominated for 3 British Short Film Awards.

He’s also worked across TV/SVOD as a key PA on Vice Studios, Boardwalk Pictures and Amblin Television’s ENCOUNTERS. And as a local PD for Wildbear Entertainment’s SECRET WEAPONS OF WW2.

Lewis is highly motivated by, and continues to pursue projects that draw on his experience working in sustainable development and the third sector.
